Steve Largent sets Meydenbauer Center Receiving Record
Going long on stage at the Meydenbauer Center ballroom, Hall of Fame Wide Receiver, former Member of Congress and current CEO of the Cellular and Telecom Industry Association (CTIA), Steve Largent easily caught a beautiful pass thrown to him by former Seahawk Mack Strong before a crowd of over 400 supporters. Mr. Largent was there to speak at the Jennifer Dunn Leadership Institute's annual fundraising breakfast. "Breakfast of Champions" was the theme of the event, which included an awards ceremony for the 2010 JDLI graduating class. Over $40,000 was raised to put on the 2011 class.

"The 2010 class turned out to be extremely successful," said Reagan Dunn, Chairman of the JDLI Board. "Seven members of that class, including six state legislators and one county Sheriff, have already been elected to public office and others are making a difference in their communities." Radio talk show host John Carlson emceed the event and Steve Largent provided the keynote address. Largent's remarks were punctuated by advice to future leaders drawing from his experience in the NFL and in Congress.

"I am honored to be here today to support such a worthy program as the Jennifer Dunn Leadership Institute," said Largent. "Jennifer and I served together in Congress and she exemplified all the skills of a good leader. It's obvious that she continues to inspire those who are part of the JDLI experience."

Jennifer Dunn Leadership Institute up and running

After months of effort, the Jennifer Dunn Leadership Institute was officially organized on May 28, 2009 with the installation of its first Board of Directors, election of officers, and adoption of bylaws.

King County Councilman Reagan Dunn agreed to serve as the Institute’s first Chairman, joined by State Attorney General Rob McKenna as Vice-Chairman, and Susan Stahlfeld, a Seattle attorney as Secretary-Treasurer.

Catherine Brazil, public affairs director for the Spokane Spokesman Review publishing company represents Eastern Washington, along with State Representative Bill Hinkle from Cle-Elum.

Vito Chiechi is considered by many to be the Dean of conservative politics in Olympia, and he continues his decades-long service with his trademark vigor and energetic challenge to the next generation to “get things done right.”

Franz W. Gregory, a long-time public affairs professional who partnered with Vito Chiechi to return Republicans to the Majority in Olympia and to elect a conservative Republican to Seattle’s 7th Congressional District, rounds out the board with an extensive background in communications and media affairs.

Bill, Vito, and Franz were the organizers of the Institute and Bill heads its operations as Chief Executive Officer.

The Institute will have its first public roll-out on August 13, 2009 at the Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center immediately following a dedication ceremony by the Pacific Science Center honoring Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn. (See Below).
